NCLEX RN Quick Results are available within 48 hours of testing, through an unofficial paid service offered by Pearson VUE in most states. They give an unofficial pass or fail only, not a score report. Official results still come from the board of nursing, typically within one to six weeks depending on the state.
Answering it directly
Quick Results are ready 48 hours after you finish the NCLEX-RN, and you get them through the Pearson VUE candidate website, not by phone or email. The result is a plain pass or fail, nothing more.
This is not a free service. Most states charge a fee, usually around 7.95 to 10 USD, paid directly on the Pearson VUE site. You need your candidate ID and the exact information you used to register for the exam.
Why the answer is what it is
The 48-hour window exists because Pearson VUE needs that time to transmit your exam data to the NCSBN and run it through the scoring algorithm before the result is considered stable enough to release, even unofficially. It is not an arbitrary delay; it reflects the processing pipeline behind the scenes.
The result is unofficial because it has not yet been through your state board's own verification and reporting process. Boards of nursing still issue the record that actually allows you to apply for licensure, and they can take anywhere from a few days to six weeks depending on staffing, background check turnaround and state-specific requirements. Quick Results is a courtesy layer on top of that process, run by Pearson VUE, not a replacement for it.
Exceptions and edge cases
Not every state participates. A handful of boards of nursing opt out of the Quick Results service entirely, which means candidates in those states wait for the official result with no early preview. Check your specific board's website before you plan around the 48-hour figure.
If your exam ended early, through the CAT algorithm's stopping rule, that does not change the Quick Results timeline. Early termination reflects how the exam works, not a shortcut to faster results. Also, if there is a data or security review flagged on your exam, both Quick Results and your official result can be delayed well past the usual window while NCSBN investigates.
What to do next
Log in to the Pearson VUE website 48 hours after your test using the account you registered with, and follow the Quick Results link if your state offers it. Have a card ready for the fee.
Treat the result as informal. Do not resign a job, book travel or tell an employer you are licensed based on Quick Results alone. Wait for your official result from the board of nursing, and for your license number to appear on Nursys, before you represent yourself as licensed to practise.
